Holmes Testing Laboratories is a full-service materials testing, geotechnical and environmental engineering firm offering soil, packaging and construction materials testing on-site and in our laboratory. We dispatch highly trained, union (where applicable) technicians throughout the regions we serve and provide top quality timely reports and engineering recommendations. Our laboratory services span the full range of construction materials testing and research in soils, concrete, aggregate, asphalt, masonry and steel as well as paper, corrugated, wood, metals and plastics testing for retail, industrial and medical applications.

Headquartered in Wheeling, Illinois, we serve clients in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Montana and Texas with local lab facilities, drill rigs, pressure testing and engineering supervision. In addition, our Lab-In-A-Box technology has allowed us to place custom-built portable labs on construction sites around the world. Samples of every sort arrive at our labs from around the world for testing every day.
Historical Perspective
Hubert Humphrey Holmes established H.H. Holmes in the late 1930s. Richard E. Nelson assumed leadership and ownership of the company in 1954. More than 50 years later, the third generation of Nelsons is employed at the firm. Richard Nelson's two sons own the business in partnership. Scott R. Nelson, is President and his brother, Todd R. Nelson, is Executive Vice President.

H. H. Holmes Testing Laboratories has long had the privilege of providing testing services for the following markets: retail, industrial, commercial, medical, residential, land development and construction. We adhere to the stringent standards set by the industries we serve, governmental regulations and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). We are annually and periodically inspected by ACI, DOT, ISTHA, FAA, Army Corps of Engineers, NIST/CCRL, A2LA and AASHTO.
Open Door Policy
We exercise an open door policy with our clients and all credentialing bodies. All are invited to visit our facilities and observe our testing practices. We have our facilities inspected by various government agencies to assure our procedures and equipment meets government and industry standards. Our state-of-the-art testing machinery and equipment is calibrated regularly to insure error free testing. At H.H. Holmes, we employ certified, highly-trained lab technicians, and all of our qualified staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
