Forensic Drilling, Coring and Sampling
H.H. HolmesTesting Laboratories can help with issues pertaining to previously placed shotcrete, concrete or asphalt. If walls or slabs move or roads wear too quickly after construction, our engineers can obtain samples by drilling and coring and after analysis can make recommendations for remediation, if necessary.
If concrete was not tested during placement, strength can be determined through this method and then compared with design. If concrete strength is less than design, it can be re-cored and re-tested after time to compare with design strength, since concrete gets stronger with age.
There can be a number of causes for concrete-lined tunnel distress. Drilling or coring into the tunnel and surrounding soil and rock can assist in evaluating the problem.
Coring of failing parking lots and roadways allows us to measure pavement thickness, test for density, composition of the asphalt and to document pavement and subgrade layers. Our engineers can then advise the best course of action for remediation.
